Project Officer

The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is a pan-African professional body working to advocate for the critical role and needs of laboratory medicine and networks throughout Africa. Africa is rapidly growing but faces major health challenges including epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, and new priorities such as Ebola and other global health security threats. Strengthened laboratory capacity and surveillance in Africa are critical to overcoming the burden of disease and ensuring a healthy future for the continent. ASLM addresses these challenges by working collaboratively with governments, local and international organizations, implementing partners, and the private sector.
Summary of the position:
Under the supervision of the LabCoP Project Lead, the Project Officer will collaborate with the LabCoP Management team to ensure success of the project. S/He will be responsible for scheduling project meetings and maintaining a database of LabCoP country team members and supporting organization of ECHO sessions. S/He will support and keep track of project communication activities including recipes, e-blasts and newsletters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tracking LabCoP Country members and their participation in ECHO sessions
- Assisting the technical lead in tracking ECHO session analytics via iECHO
- Updating members on WhatsApp and track ongoing discussions in a standardized format
- Summarizing discussions during the ECHO sessions in a standardized format
- Assisting the Technical lead in coordinating the monthly ECHO sessions, including the Mock sessions
- Assisting the LabCoP team to provide content to the quarterly newsletter
- Assisting the technical lead in coordinating and reporting on the weekly LabCoP core team meeting
- Assisting the LabCoP team and consultants in formulating LabCoP recipes
- Assisting the technical lead in organizing face-to-face meetings
- Travel as needed
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Project Lead.
Qualifications and required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in health, development or international relations preferred
- At least 5 years of professional experience, with strong experience working with HIV programs
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management, with the ability to achieve strategic objectives
- Experience working in donor-funded projects
